Official: Samsung – The Top Phone Maker of 2012

After fourteen years of battle, Samsung has finally beaten Nokia and has occupied the “Top Phone Maker” of 2012 position. The Korean corporation has also taken lead against Apple in shipping smartphones. This is one of the greatest achievements for Samsung, and the gadget behind this success is the Galaxy series smartphone. IHS iSuppli has stated that Samsung has shipped about 29% of mobile production, which is a sharp rise when compared to last year. Last year the company had shipped only about 21% of mobile phones manufactured. As against, Nokia’s shipment has dropped from 30% to 24%. It is well known that Nokia was ruling the mobile phone market since 1998.

Smartphones have evolved into the fastest moving gadgets till date. This gadget is accounted to have more shipments than any other gadget or device in the world. Wayne Lam of IHS who is the senior analyst, wireless communications mentioned in a statement that the growth of smartphones is alarming. Smartphone shipments all over the world are expected to rise by about 35.5% this year. Smartphone penetration is also expected to rise by about 47%.
Lam also mentioned that the attitude of public towards smartphone is to either “live by it or die by it”. He also stated that the struggle of Nokia and the success of Samsung were entirely based on the fortunes both the companies made in the smartphone field. Guess, Samsung got a little smarter this time.

On the other hand, Samsung fought hard to get to the number one position in the mobile sector. Samsung paid much attention to design and manufacture phones of various models. Each year they came up with some interesting gadget matching the requirements of all groups of people. Nokia paid attention to outshine in another sector. Nokia focused on changing the smart phone lineup based on the new phone Windows operating system. Nokia believed to comeback hard with the Symbian-based phones and all its hopes were shattered. The new phones based on Windows operating system did not do much help to Nokia. Typically, they ended up losing the long held position.

Guess, Samsung has followed some strategy, which has worked out well for the Korean corporation. Samsung has also beaten Apple in the smartphone market. IHS iSuppli mentioned that “Samsung has made good profits in both high and low budget Galaxy series of smartphones”. The secret here is that Samsung has manufactured gadgets to meet the financial requirements of various people. On the other hand, Apple products can only be owned by customers who have plenty of money. They come at higher costs which cannot be afforded by a person who strives to make both ends meet. Nokia failed to compete with the smartphones in the market and followed a unique style which was a major failure.

Smartphone penetration is expected to increase in the coming year 2013. It is expected to reach a tipping point in the cell phone market pushing down the sales of other mobile phones. There is no doubt that smartphones are going to dominate the mobile world in the next year. Now the burden is more on Samsung, to maintain the number one position. iPad 4 vs. Surface RT

Tablets are a very popular choice for Christmas gifts and this year is no different. However, making a decision to choose the best tablet as a Christmas gift is somewhat difficult for people as there are plenty of tablets available in the market and almost all of them have something unique and interesting to offer to its customers. This year, the iPad 4 and Microsoft Surface with Windows RT are probably two of the tablets, which many people are thinking about gifting. Weight

Weight is very important to consider these days, especially if you are choosing a tablet. The Microsoft Surface and iPad 4, both are 0.37” thick and their weight is almost same as well – Surface 1.4lb and iPad 4 weighs 1.44lb.

  • Another thing about the Surface RT that will upset users is its inability to connect with VPN platforms. Moreover, Microsoft has not provided the APIs that are needed for the AnyConnect client app. However, the company is working on it at the moment.
  • The rear camera location in the iPad 4 is much better than its location in the Surface RT. The rear camera featured in the iPad 4 is 5MP and it is capable of recoding HD videos at 1080p. On the other hand, the Surface RT tab can only manage a 720p video.
  • As for the front camera, the Surface RT has located it better than the iPad 4. In the Surface RT, video calls are better. On portrait mode on the iPad 4, the camera is still a bit better, but as for landscape mode, it’s overly one sided.
  • The battery in iPad 4 seems to be a lot better than the Surface RT. Although, there are no actual test results of how long both lasts, but still the iPad 4’s battery performs better in the tests we conducted.

If these features are not enough for you to decide which tablet to choose, then you should consider their price because the 32GB Surface costs $500 and for the same amount, you can get an iPad 4 as well, but with only 16GB memory.

Metatrader Apps – Awesome on the iPad!

A quick glance into some popular financial trading (Forex) software apps available on various devices.

For those that don’t know – Metatrader is a piece of software that is used in conjuction with server technology to connect your terminal (such as a home PC) to the financial markets so that you can trade / speculate on price fluctuations.

It’s a neat piece of kit and I’m gonna demonstrate why…

Ok, so Metatrader is not new…traders have been using Metatrader 4 (MT4) for years and have been reluctant to switch to the upgraded MT5 app because the new version has been totally remastered and re-hard coded. This basically means that a lot of plugins and scripts that were available on MT4 are made redundant unless they are rewritten by the developers. MT5 is a very neat bit of kit.  Whilst some say that the practicalities of the mobile version of MT5 are quite restrictive – (most traders simply use it open and close positions as the screen size and app integration makes technical analysis, well nee-hi impossible) – There can be a bit of lag whilst using the iPhone version – but today I want to talk about the MT5 installation on the iPad! This is quite categorically ace! The pinch and zoom functions allow you to zoom into finite detail when checking out chart data on your favourite currency pairs.

Now…Where to download it?

How do I get hold of Metatrader 5 on the iPad?

Metatrader 5 can be downloaded from itunes or your favourite broker. It’s a free download, (I got mine from: http://www.alpari.de/de/handelsplattform/metatrader5.html (as I’m based in Germany, and have already signed up for a demo account with Alpari). When installing the Metatrader software, you will be given the option as to whose servers you’d like to use. Ie. You can type in a brokers name and use their server technology to trade. Usually you need to already have a Pro account, but I like Alpari as they provide this server technology for free with their demo trial practise account. They also offer quite a few IP’s to choose from for good connectivity. (You can see if there is a free service near you – click here to find your nearest MT5 broker .)

This trial account is certainly a handy option when you only want to deep your feet in the water and try your hand at trading. Metatrader 5 software is available on most handheld devices – ie. iPhone, iPad, Android and Windows Mobile – but I’m loving the iPad version of MT5!!!!

The beauty about MT5 (compared to MT4) is that chart data is updated from right to left – this means you are getting faster chart updates than MT4. MT4 updates historically from left to right, which in turn has caused a bit of lag and sometimes traders find it frustrating to open and close positions without the ‘to second’ detail that they need!

 

I just wanted to include a quick pic demonstrating the ‘Indicators’ tab, albeit one might not find an exhaustive list of indicators here – some of the main important one’s exist at the touch of a button, including the relative strength index and moving average. 

So – not a totally indepth review – but a taster one might say! If you’re a novice or know absolutely nothing about trading forex, but this post has wet your appetite then get a bit of background first. I found this quick starter guide quite useful in my beginning stages – but that’s only from my own experience and in no way constitutes financial advice!

HTC Droid DNA – A Make or Break Journey for the beleaguered company

HTC is going to make a splash in the overtly competitive cell phone industry with its revolutionary [as far as the claims of the company are concerned] and features packed HTC Droid DNA. Though the smartphone is supposed to hit the store on November 21, its pre-sale has started as early as on November 13. Let us check out what this new HTC Droid DNA has in store for us:

Design
Honestly speaking at the very first look, you could hardly find anything awesome in it. It looks just like any other Android Smartphone. However, take a deeper look and you will be able to see the signature Verizon-red highlights that add to the cool quotient of HTC Droid DNA. The red color encircles its super impressive 8-megapixel camera lens. Frankly speaking, this gives the cell phone a new leash of life and makes it adorable.
